Rating:  - This thing kicks @rse
I thought that the up-scaling claim was a bit OTT... until I connected the DVD player and played my first DVD on it. I'm officially in love with this thing and want to spend the rest of my life with it :-)
Seriously though, it really is a great piece of kit & for once it actually does what it says it does.
Rating:  - Very Good But....
This player does indeed have the ability to make a good quality DVD look really good but can make a poor quality one look even worse.
However....
It can not play back a 4:3 aspect DVD unless you set the HDMI to the lowest video mode and in that mode (and several others), the XDE functions are not available.
How they managed to miss the correct playback of 4:3 material is beyond me...
My Toshiba HD-DVD player can do it....

Rating: - Great picture quality, but Philips TV owners beware
There is currently a compatibility issue between the XDE player and Philips televisions - well, certainly mine which is one of the latest LCD models, a 37PFL9603. These televisions can't display anything from the player when connected via HDMI cable. Toshiba are aware of this and are shipping a software update for the DVD player which will hopefully solve the problem.

Rating: - Same DVD's but a new viewing experience
The remote may not be the prettiest but that's easily overshadowed by the shear quality of the picture. I've got a 32" HD TV and was using a normal DVD player. I bought the XDE and WOW what a difference a day makes! The quality was superb from the moment the trailers started playing you could tell the difference. Pictures were sharper, images clearer and colours much better.

i can highly recommend this dvd player. i project dvd via a digital projector for that big screen experience. build quality of the player is like any other costing about £40 or so. its the technology within that your paying for. and believe me it really does work. no other upscaling dvd play that i have seen can match this player for picture quality.there is a genuine improvement in clarity. its as close to hd you can get. dont even hesitate in buying this. if you like me, have a large collection ...
