Rating:  - I think useless is the word....
Owned one since August 2008, it's now the end of October and this piece of junk has never worked! Samsung have replaced every part of the machine, updated the software and still it doesn't work.
It's back with the repair agent again now for a final attempt - I will be joining the others in an attempt to get a refund.
HDMI Easy link doesn't work, clock stops after 10 minutes, EPG sooooo slooowwwwwww.
Save your money!

Rating:  - FIXING SLOW OPERATION OF TV GUIDE AND RECORDED PLAYBACK
I too had the same problem with this item that several people did in regard to delayed stuttery play back and also slow responses when using the built in TV guide/Freeview. I phoned Samsung and they posted me a DVD which updates the software in the unit and bingo now works fine. Phone number for Samsung is 0845 7267864

I went out and bought the SH873M to match my Samsung TV, got it home and wow, what a disappointment. You can't read the display on the front (not that it gives any useful information if you could), the EPG is SLOW if it works at all, the picture keeps freezing and the sound goes out of sync, and when you load a DVD it sounds like an aircraft landing. Just horrible to use in every way.
Maybe a software update might help, but my solution: Get your money back and buy a Sony RDRHXD 890, a few quid ... Read More

Having experienced the same problems as described in other reviews, although I was happy with some aspects of the machine, the really slow remote response and EPG (painfully slow) I was not happy with, therefore I contacted Samsung. The guy on the phone said they had not had any common problems reported! He suggested I get it looked at by approved repairer. They arranged for collection and within a few days it was sorted. Bought this machine to replace non-digital Panasonic HD/DVD recorder. Definately backward step and encountering similar problems to your other 1 star reviewers- frustrating slow response to button presses when going through "guide", recorded programs (when recorded!) names not stored so have to manually rename. Timings wrong when setting from guide..etc...etc. I just can't rely on this machine.
In the process of trying to get my money back!
