Rating: - Not Ready for the UK Market
Looking for a way to watch your Freeview TV programmes recorded on your computer? As at November 2008 the EVA8000 doesn't support the .dvr-ms file types used by Windows Media Center to record Freeview programmes, so they don't play back properly - the sound stutters and is out of sync with the picture. (Although a firmware upgrade might solve this in the future.)
You also need to be aware that unless you have a very strong signal from your wireless router, the EVA is very slow to scan and download ... Read More
Rating: - Still not ready
This is one of the most frustrating products I have ever bought.
I was aware of problems with the device, but I read that a firmware upgrade had fixed the initial problem, so I bought one anyway.
The first warning was when I took it out of the box and found no UK power connector or SCART cable. That was okay as I had both and one potential frustration was averted. My next, more serious, problem was that the display rolled. This was down to the original firmware not supporting ... Read More
Rating: - Great features but still not as reliable as it should be
Am I the first person to have upgraded to the latest Feb 08 firmware and still having reliability issues? Maybe it's because I am largely using the USB interface to load my multimedia library from an external portable drive (e.g Freecom). Seems better (and greener) than leaving PC on all the time. I also have a rival product (Linksys KiSS1600) and whilst it may not have all the fancy features that this product has, it does not (a) freeze completely half way through a film (b) take 2-5 minutes to boot up and ... Rating: - EVA8000 - Candid User Review
I didn't realise how something so simple could completely change the way in which I watch movies and listen to music!
To start out, I Recently purchased a 40" Flatscreen TV which in itself was great, but when watching DVD's through my old DVD player they looked bad, blocky and fuzzy, I just couldn't watch them. At the same time I wasn't interested in purchasing an upscaling DVD player as I felt this was somewhat a false economy, and lets face it before long Blu-Ray players will be ten a ... Read More
Rating: - EVA 8000 Firmware a must!
After owning the Netgear EVA700 Digital Entertainer I could not help but upgrade to the later EVA8000. I had a few problems to start but as soon as I updated the firmware then my problems were sorted. I have to say, without a doubt, this is the nicest machine I have used. I like the sleek design that sits nicely under my Sony X series 42" LCD. I also have a NAS box which I use to store all my pics and home movies. Streaming these to the EVA is a doddle.
Read the other reviews and just think...Its ... Read More
