Rating: - Good machine
I bought it about a half a year ago and overall am pretty happy with my purchase. It is doing its job almost perfectly. The only drawback is the freeview receiver; sometimes the picture froze for a short period of time, particular the main 5 channels. I have the Sony D3000 TV and there is no such problem with it.
Rating: - using series
I got my 970 machine over a year ago, and I'm reasonably happy with it. Before this DVD recorder, I had my sky connected to my VCR, and I can watch sky channels from other rooms using a power splitter. When I replaced the VCR with this 970, I cannot tune any sky channels from other rooms, BUT if I re-connect the VCR in series with the 970, everything is OK including recording VCR to DVD, fantastic. Rating:  - GREAT MONEY SAVER
This was my first DVD recorder. Its easy to use and has a great picture which can be adjusted to suit your own taste.
The upscale to HD is brilliant. Most HD pictures on Sky are upscaled. This little box does exactly the same thing for all channels.( including the ones fed through my Sky box). So over all a saving of £10 a month.
So if you have a HD ready TV and want HD channels and DVD's, go for it!!!.
Rating: - Great Picture - Poor Scart Switching.
This is a fine piece of equipment.
Although sound tends to be a little below what you would expect, the excellent picture more than makes up for this.
One major draw back is the strange scart switching behaviour of the current range of Sony machines.
Switching seems to be reversed on these machines.
Overall, the fine picture and 250GB capacity make this an machine worth having.

I ordered this item on 13th January 2008,that date has most certainly been unlucky I as yet have not received the item.
Amazon are still advertising the item as available and in stock, I have lost count of the amount of E Mails I have sent demanding an answer from them,I get auotomated replies from Amazon and the occasional name added to the response, but no commited answer from Amazon.
They have even taken the antisipated delivery dates off my account notification.
