Rating:  - Fantastic...but a tad disappointing.
I thought about giving it 5 stars but the fact remains that i am a tad disappointed. Perhaps i am being unfair since there is no doubt that having read the reviews my expectations were very high...too high?
It does do most of the things that the 5 star reviews say it does and i am pleased at the differences, but i can't agree with the person who said that he no longer wants to grab the wand and reset the picture because i still want to do that....I am refering to the Battlestar Galictica series ... Rating:  - I bought this "new" from Amazon for £76 - what gives with the crazy price?
Apart from the price issue I would have to say this is a fantastic player. I compared it with 3 others where one was £350 JVC player and it knocked it's socks off - there was a huge difference in quality. I tried some old burned dvd's that the other players wouldn't play or skipped and shuddered - the Sony played them all smoothly.
I now have it hooked up to my 40" Bravia 1080p via component and the upscaling is truly awesome - others think that I have a Blue-Ray player.
Rating:  - £250 Are you taking the pi$$?
I've recently bought this player from Tesco Extra in Irlam for £49 as it has been replaced by the DVP-NS78H which is available for around £79. How someone can charge nearly £250 for this discontinued product is beyond me.

Ok, so I'd been debating on buying this player for some time now, since I'm not quite ready to jump to blu ray just yet maybe in a year or two when I don't feel like I'm being taken for a mug for £500+ for a half decent player.
So, having stuck faithfully to my previous Toshiba DVD player since 2000, I thought, yep, things must have moved on lots by now and since I also have a 1080p 50" TV I thought it was time to give it a bit of a HDMI treat.

Rating: - Excellent DVD player
I had purchased the Samsung 1080p7 DVD player but was never totally satisfied with it, there were problems with them player itself (slight pauses between some chapters, loss of sound and picture for a second or two, missing the 1st second of sound off both CD's and DVD's when skipping tracks)and the picture although good seemed to be slightly grainy and fuzzy.. I returned the Samsung and bought this Sony.
