Rating: - The HX-525 is RUBBISH !
Bought the HX-525 18 months ago, it has been nothing but disappointment. The manual is a nightmare to understand, the operation of it has always been incredibly slow, and after using it literally about 10-12 times since new, it has now developed an HDD Error which is impossible to fix using the troubleshooting instructions. My local Sony dealer says he has seen the same fault on this model before, and reckons an uneconomic £150 to replace the disc. So throw it away and start again - only this time ... Read More
Rating: - Very disappointing
The hard drive on my similar machine RDR-HX560 packed up after 13 months,
shattering my faith in Sony. The cost of repairing was uneconomic. When it was working,it was fine, apart from niggles like saying the disc was dirty when I tried to record on hard drive. Switching off and rebooting solved this.
The program synopsis for each program did not appear in the list of recorded programs, unlike my Thomson DHD 4000.Although you could pause live TV, you can't rewind. I doubt whether I'll ... Read More
Rating: - Niggling faults and unreliable.
I've had one of these since May and found it has a few niggling faults.
To start with, it won't play a DVD that hasn't got a title, it just gives a helpful message "DVD has no title". While it's rare for commercial DVDs to be titleless (one example is Network's "Ace of Wands"), it also means it won't play any of my home videos created from my camera.
The machine is very slow to respond. Switching it on from standby can take an age. I think it depends on how much is on the HDD ... Read More
Rating: - Pretty good but where's the HDMI?
Thanks to reviewer 'Ricko' for the advice on setting up. Got it working fine pretty quickly. It is slow to start up but once going is very good. I use the synchro record feature for transferring from Sky+ to HDD then onto DVD. Best to transfer overnight when Sky+ is not being used though.
Not sure what the HDMI interface in the manufacturers review is. I expected an HDMI output on the machine but there is not one. Buy something else if you want to connect to the TV by HDMI. Picture quality ... Read More
Rating: - Sony DVD Recorder
I must agree with the other reviewers. Sony manual is rubish.
The recorder works well and is fairly straight forwards to use, but we have found some annoying limitations with it when used with SKY.
The programme guide does not work with only a sky box - even though the manual implies that it may work. We can't pick up terrestrial TV due to surrounding hills.
We bought this as an alternative to SKY+, but without the programme guide, the system is complicated to use - my wife hates it. ... Read More
