Rating:  - How to avoid the "C:13 and a message saying 'The Disc is Dirty." error.
I currently have a HX510 which is great and i have with-held upgrading this unit for the simple fact that the newer models do not have the record pause function which is for me a major plus (and why oh why cant Sony have decent picture search speeds like all other dvd players and indeed their own players?) x1.5 too slow, x2 umm the best your gonna get and x3 too fast.

Rating:  - HXD710 Don't buy it
I have had this for about 18 months and for the last 6 months yep just out of warranty it freezes all the time. Sony are worse than useless the help desk is a joke. This is a software problem you would really expect them to produce a patch for it.

Works lika a charm if you only really wanted a DVD player. Except it will not play a lot of DVD's. On the down side, the menues are sloooooooooooooow. Sorting recordings, for instance, take hours because of delays and splash screens when you select the different options.
The main reason for the one star, though, is that you can not record from an input scart siganl, like from a decoder. This machine will let the scart signal pass through to the scart output when it is turned off, but ... Read More
Rating: - Easy to use
I have had this unit some time now and it is very simple to record and playback programmes. I use the edit features quite a lot and they work well. Very good for downloading from DV camcorder. I would not be without it. My only issue is that it freezes every couple of weeks and I have to power cycle it before it springs back to life so I have missed the odd recording. Thank goodness for the BBC iplayer. However I'm going to try turning off the auto update as helpfully suggested by others. Thanks Mrs ... Read More

Many thanks to Mrs J. Smith. My HXD710 had been freezing on a daily basis. Three weeks ago I switched off automatic updates as she suggested and haven't had a problem since.
