Rating:  - OMG - They actually make you pay for this?
I bought one of these machines a week ago, having owned reliable Lite-on machines before. It arrived (from Germany) and worked superbly for 36 hours! It then refused to eject the disc I was playing, and just taunted me with 'HELLO' constantly!
I emailed the supplier 3 times, and have yet to receive a reply from them. If I do not receive a reply by 10 Feb, I will be making a complaint and a claim to Amazon asking for a full refund!

Rating:  - Liteon 5045 - too many problems
My liteon is barely 2 years old - numerous problems. On a number of occasions the hard disc has reformated itself without warning. But the bigger problem is that it will no longer record from hard disc to a DVD of any type. Liteon technical support have not answered a single email to date - and I am informed by a technician that it will be cheaper to just buy a new DVD recorded instead of have it repaired. Shame because the functions were actually quite good.

Bought one from Amazon Jan 2005 and was really pleased with it. I have had no problems at all except for occasionally not recording programs (reason: time expired) Until now: The DVD tray won't open and there is no hole to stick a paper clip to open it so you have to take it apart, easy apart from the front of the DVD tray which just clips on but you have to undo the screws holding the DVD and angle it up before the front of the tray pops off. Fantastic machine for a couple of months when did everything it said on box, then problems began- dvd player stopped recording, then didn't want to play dvd's that had been recorded on it, then stopped playing original feature film dvd's, even though a £20 dvd player in the kids room played everything we threw at it, then hard drive crashed and we lost all the kids programmes that had slowly been built up on it, hard drive still worked but has crashed another two times losing everything on drive and finally ... I bought this back in '05 for 1p short of £300 and at first it did everything it said on the box, apart from the odd crash which I could live with.
BUT... after about a year of use it started to get fussy about the blank DVD's it wanted to record on, just spitting them out with 'Invalid Disc' errors. Then it decided it didn't really want to record on any discs... DVD+R,-R,+RW,-RW.
