Rating: - Had it 2 years now and its been excellent
Had no problems at all with this machine and would recomend it to anyone.
You have to use the higher quality options, otherwise its a bit poor, and that the only issue.
Rating: - Don't waste your money
I made the mistake of buying this heap of junk 2 years ago at double the price, and it has been more trouble than it's worth. I have returned the recorder to the store (not amazon) who have refused to acknowledge any problem with the player, and declare that it is working at an acceptable standard, according to the manufacturer's specifications. This acceptable standard includes frequent lock ups, missed recordings, sound and video being out of sync, hard disk recordings refusing to play, no RGB ... Read More
Rating: - Philips DVDR 520H with 80gb hard drive
This is an excellent product. Record quality is exceptional, on dvd and hard-disk and the apperance is aesthetically pleasing with minilistic styling blending in well with today's silver finish products. User friendly, and easily converted to multi region.Have used this recorder more in the past two weeks than the video recorder in the last 6 months.
Rating: - High quality product? Not on your life!
I thought, mistakenly as it turns out, that Philips were reknowned for reliable products. Well, that is not the case with this pile of junk. Timer recording frequently results in the unit freezing up with the only way of freeing it being to unplug it, losing that part of the program which may have already been recorded. In fact, the unit freezes up for no apparent reason whilst editing, recording, copying etc. etc. It is totally unreliable. Dolby 5.1 theatre sound is only available in digital audio ... Read More
Rating: - Not Actually A Philips Product
I am now on my second unit. Menus are more friendly than other Philips DVDR machines but that is because inside it is actually a Liteon LVW-5045 (also on sale at Amazon).
The Philips one costs more, has half the size hard drive and only works with + DVD media. The Philips model is however better styled.
This model also has very poor widescreen switching support on both input from Sky Digiboxes and output to some TV's e.g. Sony.
Also no S-Video input.
