This is a superb piece of kit. DVD playback is awesome and sound is crisp and clear through my external dolby digital system. The best bit is undoubtedly the ethernet port though. Tooled up with a netgear wge111 wireless ethernet bridge it streams all my mp3 and divx/xvid from my computer upstair flawlessly, even embedded dolby digital soundtracks.

I was tempted by reviews of this dvd player and a freinds recomendation about its DIVX capabilities so I bought one.
Upon receving it I was resonably pleased with it at first untill i went to connect it to the computer, which was far more difficult to do with the documentation that came with it, all i can really say was that the instructions where VERY poor, hardly explaining in lamemans terms how to set up the IP address DNS and the mask address.

I bought this player in January and I am very pleased with it. The video quality on DVD playback is excellent. Better than the dedicated DVD players some of my friends have.
But this is more than just a DVD player. It plays DivX 3.11, 4, 5.x, XviD, VCD, SVCD, MPG, MP3 and Ogg vorbis Audio. These formats can be played from a standard CD or DVD or from the built in 80GB hard disc on which you can store your files. I have given the DP508 4 stars rather than 5 since it is not very user freindly, but once you get to know it, it is a great 5 star product.
I have had a DP508 since Christmas 03. I soon found that the firmware was already out of date. Once updated it would actually do all the things I expected it to do.
It plays DVD's, CDRom with avi and mp3 files, and audio CD's.
I have my player networked to my home PC's and can play all the mp3's on my pc's hard drive from my lounge. The built in 80 ... Read More

Nice looking player, great features but it is full of bugs and will not work with anything like the reliability of a normal DVD player (it is a Linux PC in a DVD case after all). The quality of the DVD playback is stunning and so is the webradio (but any PC can do that for you) but its no chuffin good if it does not play more than ten minutes without pausing, fast forwarding or ejecting the DVD randomly.
