Rating:  - Very reliable!
I bought one of these DVD players approximately 18 months ago, and since then it has been on average used 5-6 hours a day by someone housebound, and it continues to function perfectly. I will admit I bought it expecting it to need replacing at or about a year old with the amount of use it gets, it has been a pleasant surprise!
Rating:  - woops, it's on fire
Bought as a birthday present in April 2003. Within a week of use it began giving off smoke. Yep, it went on fire.
A replacement was sent in May 2003 but again it developed a fault. At least this time it did not spontaneously combust. Eventually a refund was requested.
Avoid this player and purchase another model, several offered by Amazon.
Rating: - Happy initially but skipping takes over
i bought my SVA in April 2003 based on all the reviews and have had 9 months of viewing pleasure. It has now developed a fault whereby it keeps skipping and jamming regardless of which DVD i am playing.
I will not be buying another or letting Amazon replace it with a similar model
Rating: - High hopes end in disappointment
I bought this item on the strength of previous reviews, and my initial impressions were good. However, it soon developed the skipping fault described in a previous review, and now after three months skips so badly that it is completely unusable. I can't help but wonder if this is why Amazon doesn't seem to be offering them any more. Think very carefully before buying.
Rating:  - Suffers from overheating problem
This suffers from an overheating problem, which, as far as I can tell, having tried more than one, is typical of the model. Heat generated during the first 70-80 minutes of DVD playback causes a deteriorating skipping fault which can be remedied only by turing off for 20 mins at a time and letting the machine cool down.
